Overview

Commissioned by a land trust, Quarry Hall was delivered with Redrock Constructors as a visitor hall and archive set into the face of a decommissioned sandstone quarry. The project celebrates repair, warm oak paneling, and a monumental central stair, returning a scarred site to public life as one of the most rewarding projects we have completed.

Project Details

A single oak-paneled stair rises through the hall's full height, its brass handrail catching light from a skylight two storeys above. Walls are lined in quarter-sawn oak milled from timber cleared during excavation, laid in bands that echo the quarry's own strata. A single north-facing rooflight washes the archive wall, keeping the collection lit without a window to the harsh southern sky.
